Women’s Goalkeeper Gloves VS Men’s Goalkeeper Gloves

There are a wide selection of women’s soccer cleats and an increasing amount of women’s goalkeeper gloves, but how do women’s gloves compare to men’s goalkeeper gloves?

Goalkeeper Glove Selection:

• There are definitely more men’s goalkeeper gloves available than women’s gloves.  Since many women wear men’s gloves, it’s even tougher for small soccer shops to carry women’s gloves.  That being said, you find even less of a selection in a store than online.
• The high-end goalkeeper gloves like the Sells Total Contact Exosphere, the uhlsport Cerberus Bionik, the reusch Raptor Pro G1, or the Nike Confidence are only available in men’s/unisex sizing.

Glove Price:

• Since there is a huge selection difference between men’s and women’s goalkeeper gloves, you’ll see a much wider price range in men’s gloves.  Women’s goalie gloves generally run from $25 to $125 whereas men’s goalie gloves range from about $20 to $180!

Sizing/Fit:

• Women’s gloves aren’t all pink goalie gloves.  They are sized differently.  The fingers of the glove are more slim and tend to be a bit longer.  Men can definitely wear women’s gloves, if they are trying to match their pink soccer cleats, they may want to consider ordering a size up so the glove doesn’t stretch out and tear.

Features:

• Back to selection.  You’ll be able to find women’s gloves with spines, women’s gloves with a rounded/gun cut, and women’s gloves with a standard cut.  But that’s about it.  The selection is so small that there is typically one or two gloves that have a spine, a gun cut/rounded finger, or a standard cut.

In conclusion, I’d recommend going with men’s goalkeeper gloves unless you prefer the fit of a women’s keeper glove.  You shouldn’t limit yourself to a selection just because a glove is labeled as “women’s.”  Go with what is most comfortable and what you prefer with foam, wrist wrap, extra features like spines, and even style.
