Everyone assumed today there would be a lot of goals scored with Brazil and Portugal playing let’s see what happened.
New Zealand’s first string goalkeeper, Glen Moss is still serving a two game suspension from a red card during the qualifying matches which gave Mark Paston the start. Paston recorded 1 breakaway save and did everything he could on an open header off of a cross. Slovakia also has an interesting story regarding keepers – they used 3 different keepers during World Cup qualifying (Jan Mucha, Stefan Senecky, and Lubos Kamenar). Today they went with Jam Mucha who also recorded 1 save, dropped a cross (luckily his team cleared away) and learned what 90+ minutes really means when another finish off a cross in the 3rd minute of injury time.
The first game from the Group of Death between the Ivory Coast and Portugal was scoreless. Barry Boubacar from the Ivory Coast was the only keeper tested in the match and thanked his lucky post after it favored him during the great shot from Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal’s keeper, Eduardo didn’t see much action, but kept his team organized throughout counter attacks.
Not many could have guessed how the second game from the Group of Death would have ended. Who would have thought the game would have been so close and not action pact. Neither goalkeeper made a jaw dropping save or kept their team in the game. Ri Myong-Guk, North Korea’s keeper gave up a very soft near post goal on a poor again. North Korea’s late goal on Julio Cesar can be considered soft as well, the Brazilian defense wasn’t there, not much Julio Cesar could have done.
Show me the goalkeeper gloves!

Man, I don’t think is this model. Check here http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_H8uGs8K8kaY/TBf_9-FP4wI/AAAAAAAAFks/G7bkdBFOuEA/s1600/luva-corea.jpg. In the palm it is printed the name of the brand. It does not seem like Legea.

Italy almost had the comeback! There have been a lot of upsets this World Cup – do you think they’ll be any other ones?

How about the Sells glove worn by David Green, not exactly a ringing endorsement, but ….
